I am currently reading through a devotional on 1, 2, and 3 John from She Reads Truth. Today’s Scripture reading was 1 John 2:1-14, Ephesians 6:10-20, 1Timothy 2:5-6, and Matthew 11:25-30. Amanda Bible Williams wrote the devo part where she said, “The Christian life is beautiful, but it is also a battle.” This thought struck me as I had been reading the passage from1 John 2, where it says that if we say we walk in the light but hate our brother than we are really walking in the darkness. As I read that, I wrote that we are to love but still stand strong.
Jesus did call us to love others, but he also taught us not to accept all that culture tells us. God has given us laws to follow and our current culture is desperately telling us opposite. How can we do this beautiful life and love while still fighting the battle?
Ephesians 6 tells us to put on the whole armor of God. That’s how we fight the battle. At the bare minimum, we need the shield of faith. When we get tired in the battle, we can rest in God. Jesus tells us in Matthew 11 to rest in Him. Battle is exhausting. When we’re in the throws of the spiritual battle we need to make sure we have on our spiritual armor and that when it’s time to rest, that we rest in the Lord.
Life is beautiful and messy. Walk with God in the light. Put on the armor of God. Rest in the Lord. Live the beautiful life.
